Why glucosamine and chondroitin are not enough to soothe pain and heal

The majority of the 1,583 participants in a New England Journal of Medicine study, said that glucosamine and chondroitin didn't help with their knee pain any more than a placebo. (All participants suffered from some form of osteoarthritis.)

Why?: The body probably breaks it down during digestion and there's no clear evidence that there's an opportunity for the glucosamine/chondroitin to get to the broken cartilage to repair it.
